Bangladesh Women head into the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales with strong momentum after an unbeaten Global Qualifier campaign in Nepal. Led by Nigar Sultana Joty, the Tigresses have a real opportunity to build on their recent success and make a statement on English soil. Though Group 1 is challenging with the presence of Australia, India, and South Africa, it also offers a chance to showcase their growth.
Strength
Nigar Sultana Joty provides a multidimensional skill set. She is a steady wicketkeeper and anchor in the batting lineup. Her calm captaincy and ability to handle the spinners will be their biggest strength. Spin is their primary weapon of choice, and how Joty handles Nahida Akter, alongside Sultana Khatun, Shanjida Akther Maghla, and Fahima Khatun, can decide Bangladesh’ fate in this tournament.
Weakness
The pace of their batting is a huge issue for them. Even in 2026, most of their batters lack the power-hitting capability and the ability to rotate the strike through singles, creating dot-ball pressure for themselves. Similarly, their pace bowling attack has limited options. Except for Marufa Akhtar, they lack international-class seam bowling options to be successful in English conditions.
Opportunities
Youngsters like Shorna Akhtar and Taj Nehar add the much-needed firepower in the batting. They can provide the aggressive hitting capability that Bangladesh need to take the full advantage of the death overs. The big grounds of England also provide an opportunity for their spinners to utilize their flight and other variations freely without the fear of being hit.
Threats
They have recently lost a tri-series involving associate nations, Scotland, and the Netherlands. Interestingly, Bangladesh will share the same group as Scotland and the Netherlands in the T20 World Cup. If Bangladesh are already facing difficulties in beating them, the matches against Australia, India, and South Africa can be hugely challenging.
Realistically, Bangladesh will hope to win a couple of games in the tournament. If everything clicks for them, they can be a very tricky opposition to face.
