Zimbabwe took complete control of the one-off Test (ZIM vs BAN) at the Harare Sports Club after a dominant all-round performance on Day 2. Having won the toss and surprisingly elected to field, the hosts bowled out Bangladesh for a paltry 140 before powering their way to a commanding first-innings total of 410. Resuming their first innings, Bangladesh looked steady at lunch with Mominul Haque (60) anchoring the innings.
However, they suffered an almighty collapse, losing their final eight wickets for just 27 runs. Left-arm medium-pacer Newman Nyamhuri was the chief destroyer, ripping through the batting order to claim a superb 4 for 61. He was ably supported by Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, and Brad Evans, who picked up two wickets apiece to leave the Tigers reeling.
Bangladesh trail by 230 runs
In response, Zimbabwe’s batsmen feasted on the visitors’ bowling. Opener Innocent Kaia led the charge with a magnificent, patient 140 off 227 balls, hitting 17 boundaries. Middle-order resilience came from veteran Craig Ervine (60) and youngster Brian Bennett (59). A late, aggressive flourish from Wessly Madhevere (77 off 108 balls) pushed Zimbabwe to 410 all out, securing a massive 270-run first-innings lead. Amidst the carnage, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam was Bangladesh’s lone warrior, picking up a grueling 7 for 138.
Forced to bat a second time before the close of play, Bangladesh’s woes continued as Richard Ngarava struck early to remove Shadman Islam. At stumps on Day 2, Bangladesh reached 40 for 1 in their second innings, with Mahmudul Hasan Joy (21) and Mominul Haque (9) at the crease. Facing a daunting 230-run deficit, the Tigers face an uphill battle to save the Test match.
