East Zone captain Ishan Kishan played a magnificent innings against South Zone in the Duleep Trophy (2026-27) final. On the second day of the match being played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Ishan smashed a double century. He reached the milestone off 270 balls, an innings that included 26 fours and two sixes. Thanks to Ishan’s double century, East Zone posted a total of 708 runs in their first innings.

Ishan Kishan reached this milestone by hitting a four off the second ball of the 122nd over, bowled by Devdutt Padikkal. This was the second double century of Ishan’s first-class career and his first in the Duleep Trophy. In total, Ishan scored 270 runs off 334 balls, hitting 30 fours and seven sixes during his knock.

The left-handed batter is the first East Zone batsman to score a double century in a Duleep Trophy final. He is also the third East Zone batter overall to hit a double century in the tournament. Previously, only Arun Lal and Saba Karim had achieved this feat. Arun Lal scored two double centuries during the 1986-87 Duleep Trophy season, while Saba Karim accomplished the feat in 1995-96.

Overall, Ishan Kishan is the sixth batsman to score a double century in a Duleep Trophy final. Raman Lamba, Anshuman Gaekwad, Yusuf Pathan, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Yashasvi Jaiswal are already on this elite list. Ishan Kishan has also become the captain with the highest individual score in a Duleep Trophy final, surpassing the record previously held by Anshuman Gaekwad.
