“They outplayed us in every department”, Shreyas praised Irish players
After a crushing 2-0 defeat in the two-match T20 series against Ireland, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer admitted that his team failed to read the conditions properly while batting. He praised Ireland, saying that the hosts read the wicket better, fielded brilliantly and performed better than India in every department.
After the match, Iyer said that the series wasn’t good for India at all. He said, “Honestly, it wasn’t a good series for us. Ireland deserves full credit for the way they played. They had a great understanding of the wicket’s behavior and their fielding was also excellent. They outplayed us in every department and deserve congratulations for this impressive victory.”
He added, “Our bowlers bowled brilliantly in the beginning and took early wickets. However, our strategy in the middle overs was not right. We allowed the batsmen to play straight to the long side of the field, despite the short boundaries. I thought if we had restricted them to around 140, the target would have been much better.”
“Beating India was no fluke”, said Lorcan Tucker
The Irish cricket team made history on Sunday. Ireland defeated India by 1 run in the second T20 match played in Belfast. With this victory, Ireland won the two-match series. Ireland captain Lorcan Tucker looked very happy after the victory. He said that the team did not defeat India by chance; a lot of hard work went into it. Earlier, Ireland had won the first T20 by 34 runs.
On winning the series, Ireland captain Lorcan Tucker said, “I can’t believe it, but it’s really amazing. I think I challenged the players a few days ago to show the world that winning the first T20 was no fluke. We can do it again. Today we did it.”
He added, “I think we were very excited that night, but I told the players to get out of that excitement, get back to reality and perform well. And also recover. I think we came out with that intention. I thought we worked professionally and diligently. We showed that again today.”
Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson scripts unwanted record
Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have added an unwanted record to their names. In the second T20I against Ireland, both Indian batsmen were dismissed in the very first over of the innings. This is only the third time in Indian cricket that both opening batsmen have been dismissed for ducks in the first over of a T20I match.
Only three times in the history of international T20 cricket have both Indian openers been dismissed in the first over without scoring. In 2016, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane were dismissed for ducks in the first over against Pakistan.
