Sourav Ganguly to be inducted into ICC Hall of Fame
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly will be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. According to media reports, the announcement will be made at the ICC’s annual conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, on July 11. Ganguly will be the 12th Indian cricketer to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Ganguly is set to achieve this major milestone on his 54th birthday. Ganguly’s induction will take the number of Indian players in the ICC Hall of Fame to 12. He is preceded by Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Vinoo Mankad, Virender Sehwag, Diana Edulji, Neetu David and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Team India is on ‘reset’ phase, says Gautam Gambhir
Following the crushing 125-run defeat in the third T20I against England , India’s fourth consecutive T20I loss, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir spoke openly for the first time about the team’s poor performance. He stated that the team is currently going through a “reset” phase and that it’s important to give the young players time to prove themselves.
He said, “When a team is reset, it needs time. 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is opening, Prince Yadav is playing his second T20, and Harshit Rana has returned from injury. Therefore, the full picture cannot be seen based on results alone.”
“We ultimately look only at results, and no doubt results are important in international cricket, but we have to be practical as well. Sometimes you give players time to develop. England is a high-quality side. If you put players in against such teams, you have to give them time to develop. Because after a reset, things take time,” Gambhir added.
Pratika Rawal ruled out of Lord’s Test due to injury
Indian opening batter Pratika Rawal has been ruled out of the historic Test match against England, starting Friday at Lord’s, due to a knee injury. Head coach Amol Muzumdar stated that Pratika sustained a deep cut on her knee during an India A match in Taunton earlier this month. Priya Punia has been added to the Indian squad as her replacement.
Amol Muzumdar said, “Pratika has been ruled out of the Test match due to an injury sustained during the India A game. She suffered a deep cut on her knee that required stitches, so she will not be able to play in this Test; Priya Punia has been included in the squad in her place.”
Fatima Sana to play in ‘The Hundred’, join Birmingham Phoenix
Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana will not be part of the upcoming T20 International series against Sri Lanka . The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has given her permission to play in England’s prestigious Women’s The Hundred League.
However, Fatima will first play the ODI series on the Sri Lanka tour, as it is part of the ICC Women’s Championship. After the ODIs are over, she will fly directly to England and join her franchise, Birmingham Phoenix. Fatima Sana recently achieved a new milestone. She became the first Pakistani female cricketer to be selected by a team in the Women’s The Hundred League.
Tammy Beaumont to retire from international cricket
Tammy Beaumont, a stalwart of the England women’s cricket team, has recently announced that she will retire from cricket following the Test match against the Indian women’s team at Lord’s. Speaking through the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Tammy Beaumont said, “It has been a huge honor to play for England for nearly 17 years. When I fell in love with cricket at a young age, I hardly knew that playing for England could even be an option. It brings me great joy to think about how many girls and boys have been inspired by this—especially this summer—and how far the game has come in our country.” Beaumont has played 11 Test matches, 140 ODIs, and 109 T20 matches. During this time, she has scored 612 Test runs at an average of 34, 4,738 ODI runs at an average of 40.5, and 1,975 T20 runs at an average of 24.09.
