Need to sit together and think how to move forward: Harmanpreet Kaur

After losing the series to South Africa ahead of the T20 World Cup, India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said that the team needs to regroup and find a way forward. It was yet another below-par batting display by the Indian team as they fell short of 23 runs while chasing a modest 156 in the final T20I.  “Need to sit together as a group and think how to move forward. Disappointing for us, lots of positives and learnings for us,” Harmanpreet said at the post-match presentation.

On the other hand, South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt once again led from the front with an unbeaten 92 off 56 balls. She finished the five-match series with 330 runs- most by any woman in a bilateral T20I series. “We’ve had massive improvements in all departments in the last couple of months, though. It’s been a very good season for that,” she said after being presented with the player-of-the-series award.

Zimbabwe Women captain Mary-Anne Musonda retires from all forms of cricket

Zimbabwe Women captain Mary-Anne Musonda announced her retirement from all forms of cricket. The 34-year-old featured in 58 T20Is and 16 ODIs for Zimbabwe, but played more than 100 matches before Zimbabwe gained their international status. Part of the Zimbabwe setup since 2006, Musonda was appointed captain in 2018. After Zimbabwe attained international status, she went on to score 1,054 runs in T20Is, including five half-centuries and amassed 336 runs in ODIs. In 2021, she became the first Zimbabwean to score an international century in women’s cricket- an unbeaten 103 in what was the nation’s first-ever official ODI, against Ireland.

Musonda was quoted in a statement released by Zimbabwe Cricket, “From the outside it might seem like there’s still more left in the tank – and, in many ways, there is. But this decision wasn’t only about performance or ability. It was a combination of timing, perspective and physical reality.” She added, “My role in developing the women’s game, mentoring younger players and contributing to cricket in Zimbabwe in a broader sense has become just as important to me as playing . . . it became clearer that this is the right moment to step aside from international cricket.”

Fans allowed for PSL playoffs

The spectators will be allowed in the stadiums for all playoff matches of PSL 2026, as announced by the PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Earlier, an announcement was made on Saturday that the Prime Minister had allowed the fans to attend the final on May 3 in Lahore. On Monday, Naqvi took to his social media account and wrote, “Just had a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and I’m pleased to share that we have secured his approval for public attendance in all three PSL playoff matches as well.”

He added, “However, this comes with an important condition from his side that fans are strongly encouraged to use public transport or minimise fuel consumption while attending the matches, in line with the ongoing national austerity efforts.” The entire PSL league matches have been played behind closed doors following the West Asia crisis.
