Sri Lanka fail to enforce result as 2nd Test ends in draw to hand West Indies the series

Sri Lanka tried their best to enforce a result in the second Test against West Indies at North Sound, but they failed to do so. West Indies were set a target of 302, after Sri Lanka managed 251/9 in just 49 overs. They batted aggressively to win the Test and level the series, but the West Indies openers ensured that they could not get any breakthroughs, finishing on 109/0.

Openers John Campbell and Brandon King both finished unbeaten on 51 to take their side to safety. As far as Sri Lanka are concerned, Dinesh Chandimal (71) and Kamindu Mendis (44) gave their side a chance with an 86-run stand. Dhananjaya de Silva (34), Sonal Dinusha (28) and Milan Rathnayake (20*) made useful contributions to set West Indies an improbable target.

No breakthroughs for SL

With time quickly running out, Sri Lanka would have wanted their bowlers to pick up a few quick wickets and put the Windies on the back foot, but they played out the 40 overs without much trouble.

Earlier in the match, a magnificent century from Lahiru Udara (188) set the tone as Sri Lanka put on a massive 549/9 in their first innings. In reply, West Indies did extremely well to score 499, thanks to centuries from Justin Greaves (180) and Shai Hope (112).

West Indies eventually claimed a 1-0 series win, thanks to their innings and 217-run victory in the first Test at the same venue. This is also Roston Chase’s first series win as captain since he took over the role last year.
