IPL 2026 Bulletin: Major Talking Points | May 6, 2026

SRH beat Punjab Kings by 33 runs

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have taken the top spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) points table after registering a 33-run win against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 49th match of the season on Wednesday. Sunrisers Hyderabad have jumped two places to the top of the points table after winning seven out of 11 matches.

With this loss, Punjab Kings have slipped to second place after losing their third consecutive match. Sunrisers Hyderabad, who lost the toss and elected to bat at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, scored 235/4. In reply, Punjab Kings could only manage 202 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted overs.

Gavaskar supports BCCI for shifting IPL 2026 final to Ahmedabad

Sunil Gavaskar has supported the BCCI’s call to move the IPL 2026 final from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad. Normally, the defending champions get to host the final, and since Royal Challengers Bengaluru took the title in 2025, fans expected the big match to happen at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 31.

But things changed. The BCCI didn’t just switch the final to Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad — they also took away the playoffs from Bengaluru. Instead, Dharamsala and New Chandigarh landed the hosting rights for those crucial games.

Gavaskar said, “Bengaluru will not host the playoffs, and we have been told several reasons behind the move. I think it is the correct decision as Ahmedabad has the biggest stadium in the world and the gate money will go to the BCCI. In the league matches, the gate money goes to the home franchises.”

I’ve given my absolute best every time, says KL Rahul

Delhi Capitals took a tough blow on Tuesday, May 5, when they lost to Chennai Super Kings right at home. That defeat at Arun Jaitley Stadium dropped them to seventh place on the table, and with just four games left, their chances for an IPL 2026 Playoff spot look pretty slim.

But DC batter said, “I’ve given my absolute best every time I’ve played and prepared as well as I could to give myself the best chance to succeed. I’ve always tried to stay balanced, whether I win or lose. Whenever I feel low about what I haven’t achieved, I remind myself of what I have, and it gives me perspective. I still have some time left. So, I’ll keep trying my best and see how many trophies I can win.”
