I believe Punjab will face RCB in the final, says Gavaskar
Former Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has predicted that the IPL 2026 title match could be played between Punjab Kings and defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Gavaskar said, “In Punjab’s case, consecutive losses will only help the team reset and regain its rhythm. This will make Punjab realize the importance of the upcoming matches and they will not want to suffer another defeat.”
He added, “I still support Punjab.Punjab knows how important this stage of the tournament is. Punjab will now want to avoid another defeat by not becoming overconfident. I still believe that Punjab and RCB will face each other in the final this season too.”
RCB coach fined by BCCI
Royal Challengers Bangalore faced Mumbai Indians on Sunday night at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. The drama in this match was not confined merely to the players on the field; it spilled over into the dugout as well. RCB Head Coach Andy Flower has been found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. This incident occurred during the 18th over of the match (at the 17.2-over mark), when Andy Flower was observed engaging in a heated argument with the fourth umpire and using abusive language.
According to an official statement issued by the IPL, Andy Flower violated Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to the use of audible obscenities during a match. This constitutes a Level 1 offense. Andy Flower has admitted to the offense and has accepted the sanction imposed by Match Referee Amit Sharma. The coach’s conduct at such a critical juncture of the match has become a subject of widespread discussion.
