Axar Patel has proved to be a useful all-rounder, be it in the Indian Premier League (IPL) or for India on more than one occasion. The Delhi Capitals (DC) captain has been under the pump for his poor show not just as a player but also as a leader.
However, on May 11 (Monday), he achieved a rare double of becoming only the third player to score 2,000 runs and pick up 100 wickets in IPL history.
Players with 2,000 runs & 100 wickets in IPL
Ravindra Jadeja (3,450 runs & 178 wickets)
Andre Russell (2,651 runs & 123 wickets)
Axar Patel (2016 runs & 138 wickets)
Axar, who made his IPL debut in 2014, did not bowl in the ongoing game against Punjab Kings (PBKS), but walked in at No. 5 to score a valuable fifty. His team is chasing 211 to win and stay in contention for a place in the playoffs.
DC have lost five of their last six matches in IPL and find themselves on the brink of elimination. Earlier, DC rode on fifties from Priyansh Arya (56) and Shreyas Iyer (59*) to put up 210/5. Madhav Tiwari and Mitchell Starc picked up two wickets apiece, while Mukesh Kumar chipped in with one.
DC are currently in eighth place on the IPL 2026 points table, having won just four of their 11 matches so far.
