India Squad Announcement: BCCI have announced the T20 squad for India’s upcoming tours of Ireland and England. Suryakumar Yadav, who led India to the T20 World Cup title, has not only lost the captaincy but has also been dropped from the T20 squad. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the new captain of the Indian T20 team, while 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has earned a spot in the Indian squad for the first time; he has been included as the 16th player.
A surprising aspect of this squad selection is that Suryakumar Yadav—who captained India to the 2026 T20 World Cup victory—has not only been stripped of the captaincy but has also been excluded from the T20 format entirely. Indian team Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Board Secretary Devajit Saikia announced the squads for the Ireland and England tours, as well as the team for the Asian Games scheduled to be held in Japan in September. Shreyas Iyer has been named captain for all three squads.
Other than Suryakumar, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav and Rinku Singh are the other notable omissions from India’s T20I squads. In all, the squads have been named today: two-match T20I series against Ireland; five-match T20I series against England and the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
