NZ vs IND: India clinched an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match T20I series after defeating New Zealand by six wickets in Wellington, completing a astonishing 199-run chase with 40 balls to spare. Asked to bat first, New Zealand recovered from an early setback to post a formidable total of 198/3 in their 20 overs. Tim Seifert fell cheaply for 2, but Finn Allen counter-attacked with a lively 40 off 25 deliveries, featuring five sixes.
The cornerstone of the Kiwi innings was Daryl Mitchell, who anchored the side with a stellar, unbeaten 89 off 52 balls. Late contributions from Bevon Jacobs (39* off 23) pushed the total near 200. For India, Arshdeep Singh (1/33), Axar Patel (1/36), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (1/38) picked up a wicket apiece.
Abhishek Sharma’s blistering ton decimates Kiwis
India’s pursuit of 199 turned into an absolute exhibition of explosive batting. Openers Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi tore into the New Zealand attack from the outset, forging a record-shattering 133-run partnership in just 7.1 overs. India shattered the men’s T20I Powerplay record by blasting 118 runs without loss in the opening six overs.
Youngster Sooryavanshi struck a fiery 45 off 19 balls before departing to Matthew Fisher. However, Abhishek Sharma remained relentless, butchering 9 fours and 11 sixes to reach a sensational 38-ball 113. By the time Kyle Jamieson dismissed him in the 10th over with India at 178/2, the target was well within reach. Despite losing Shreyas Iyer (5) late in the chase, Sanju Samson (17*) and Naman Dhir saw India home comfortably at 199/4 in 13.2 overs to seal a spectacular series victory.
Brief scores: New Zealand 198/3 in 20 overs (Daryl Mitchell 89*, Finn Allen 40; Arshdeep Singh 1-33) lost to India 199/4 in 13.2 overs (Abhishek Sharma 113, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 45) by six wickets.
