Blow for India as Nitish Kumar Reddy ruled out of Ireland, England T20Is

India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the T20 International (T20I) series against Ireland due to a quadriceps injury, according to reports. As a result, his participation in the white-ball leg of the England tour is in jeopardy. It’s a big blow for India as their fast-bowling all-rounder option has taken a further hit with Hardik Pandya continuing with his rehabilitation.

Reddy was part of the One-Day International (ODI) series against Afghanistan recently, where he played two of the three games. He missed the second ODI in Lucknow as he was dealing with a quad injury, according to skipper Shubman Gill.

Unable to bowl

His injuries have been a major hindrance to his bowling at full tilt. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, he bowled just five overs across the tournament for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Moreover, he also withdrew midway through the England Test tour last year due to a knee injury.

No timeline has been provided yet on his return, but he is expected to report at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to begin his rehabilitation.

Overall, Reddy has played six ODIs and four T20Is for India since making his debut in 2024.

Replacement named

Suryansh Shedge has been named Reddy’s replacement for the series against Ireland and England. His call-up comes after a string of impressive performances for India A in Sri Lanka. He scored 147 runs across the series and also chipped in with 23 overs.

Moreover, he slammed 131 runs at a strike rate of 251/92 in the Syed Mushtaq Ai Trophy 2024-25 for Mumbai.

India will play two T20Is against Ireland on June 26 and 28 before heading to England, where they will play five T20Is and three ODIs, starting July 1.
