Batting at number three for India, Devdutt Padikkal remained unbeaten on 142. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal fell to Vishwa Fernando in the very first over without opening his account. Subsequently, Padikkal and KL Rahul shared a 96-run partnership. Rahul scored 40 runs before being bowled by Keshara Nuwantha. Devdutt Padikkal retired hurt after scoring 103 runs; he was called back to give other batters a chance.

Ravindra Jadeja scores a half-century
The two wicketkeeper-batters, Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel, failed to make an impact. Pant (2) and Jurel (1) both fell to Ramesh Mendis. Following this, Ravindra Jadeja and Manav Suthar stitched together a 76-run partnership. Jadeja completed his half-century and retired hurt on 63. Kuldeep Yadav, who came in next, contributed just one run before also retiring hurt. Manav scored 41 runs before being trapped LBW by Asanka Manoj.
When Mohammed Siraj got out off Asanka Manoj’s bowling, Devdutt Padikkal returned to the crease. Since it was a warm-up match, he was given the opportunity to bat again. In official matches, a batter who leaves the field without an injury is considered ‘retired out’ and does not get another chance to bat. Padikkal, along with Saransh Jain, steered the team past the 300-run mark. Saransh retired hurt after scoring 22 runs.
