The first Test match between Pakistan and the West Indies is being played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. The hosts West Indies dominated the first day of the Test, but Pakistan rebounded on the second day, and Babar Azam’s team now has the upper hand. On the second day, the West Indies were all out for 311 runs in the first innings. Pakistan’s fast bowlers took all 10 wickets. Pakistan then ended the day’s play at 199 for 3. Former captain Shan Masood remained unbeaten on 88.
Pacers, Imam and Masood lead Pakistan’s fightback
In the first innings for the West Indies, Kavem Hodge scored 84 and Shai Hope scored 92. Both fell short of centuries. Finally, fast bowler Shamar Joseph played a crucial innings of 23 runs in 13 balls, including four fours and a six. For Pakistan, Mohammad Ali took the most wickets, taking four. Mohammad Abbas took three, and Khurram Shahzad two. Aamer Jamal took one wicket. Thus, all 10 wickets were taken by Pakistani fast bowlers.
Pakistan’s batting got off to a poor start. Azan Awais was dismissed for a duck. The first wicket fell at 1 run, but Imam-ul-Haq and Shan Masood then added a 155-run partnership. Imam scored 63 runs off 102 balls, hitting seven fours. Shan Masood remained unbeaten on 88 off 137 balls, hitting 11 fours.
Captain Babar Azam’s bat didn’t perform well. Returning to captaincy after a long absence, Babar Azam was dismissed for 23 runs off 38 balls, including three fours. He was dismissed by Jaden Seals. Salman Ali Agha remained unbeaten along with Shan Masood. However, Salman has yet to open his account.
