ICC to launch IPL-like league

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering several major changes. Several major decisions are expected to be made regarding the future of all three formats of cricket. The ICC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) is reportedly scheduled to be held in Edinburgh, Scotland, between July 8 and 11 under the chairmanship of Jay Shah. The launch of a second league similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL) could also be considered.

According to a report in The Guardian, a World Club Championship could be launched for T20 franchises playing around the world. This would be similar to the Champions T20 League, which was played between 2009 and 2014, in which T20 franchises from different countries participated. These plans are still in their initial stages. No official information has been released regarding these matters.

“Every player will think, ‘I’m next’…”: R. Ashwin lashes out at Gambhir

A five-match T20 series is currently underway between India and England, with the Indian team trailing 1-0 so far. A major change was made to the Indian playing XI for the second T20 match held on July 4; Vaibhav Suryavanshi was handed his debut, replacing Sanju Samson. R. Ashwin has expressed his displeasure with Gautam Gambhir over this decision, believing it sends the wrong message from the dressing room.

Ashwin feels that dropping Sanju from the playing XI was not the right move by Gautam Gambhir. He points out that Sanju played a key role in India’s 2026 T20 World Cup victory and, therefore, should not have been dropped from the playing XI so quickly. He has voiced his concern regarding Sanju Samson’s exclusion from the team.

He further added, “What must Sanju be thinking right now? With what mindset will he practice in the nets? The Indian team currently has three consecutive left-handed batsmen in the top order. I believe the team could consider bringing Sanju back at number 3 to strike a balance, as the entire coaching staff—including Gautam Gambhir—knows that this was unfair to Sanju. It is not in the team’s best interest.”
