ZIM vs BAN: Bangladesh fails to chase 142 runs, Zimbabwe win by 25 runs in the first ODI

The Zimbabwe cricket team defeated the Bangladesh cricket team by 25 runs in the first ODI (ZIM vs BAN), taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Played at the Harare Sports Club, the match was a thrilling affair. Zimbabwe was bowled out for 141 runs. In response, Bangladesh, chasing the small target, failed to pose a challenge, managing only 116 runs.

Nahid Rana’s historic spell went in vain

In this clash, Zimbabwe, who lost the toss and elected to bat, had a disastrous start. Bangladesh’s pace spearhead Nahid Rana struck hard, taking 6 wickets for just 21 runs in 10 overs. Zimbabwe had no answer to his dangerous bowling, and the entire team was bundled out for just 141 runs in 36.4 overs. Newman Nyamhuri scored 33 runs, while Richard Ngarava made a useful 27 runs to take the team to this score, which later proved to be a match-winning one.

Chasing a simple target of 142 runs, Bangladesh were not expecting such a painful journey. Zimbabwe’s fast bowlers kept the visitors under pressure from the outset. A steady fall of wickets put Bangladesh on the back foot. Richard Ngarava bowled brilliantly, taking 3/31 in 7.1 overs.

Brad Evans also bowled a brilliant spell, dismissing three batsmen for 34 runs in 10 overs. Newman Nyamhuri and Blessing Muzarabani each took two wickets, leaving Bangladesh all out for 116 runs in 33.1 overs. It’s also worth noting that Zimbabwe used only four bowlers during this period, and all four of them were successful in securing the victory.

Brief scores:

Zimbabwe 141 in 36.4 overs (Newman Nyamhuri 33, Richard Ngarava 27; Nahid Rana 6-21, Taskin Ahmed 2-32) beat Bangladesh 116 in 33.1 overs (Nurul Hasan 31; Brad Evans 3-34, Richard Ngarava 3-31, Blessing Muzarabani 2-24) by 25 runs.
