England women booked their place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 final with a resounding 40-run victory over South Africa Women at The Kia Oval. A flawless batting partnership between the returning captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and veteran Heather Knight set a daunting target, before a relentless, squeeze-and-strike bowling display comprehensively dismantled the Proteas’ chase.
Partnership that takes England women to a competitive score
After South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first, England women found themselves in early collapse. Opening bowler Shabnim Ismail struck quickly as she removed Amy Jones and Alice Capsey in her first two overs. On the other hand, the other veteran, Marizanne Kapp, dismissed the tournament’s highest run scorer, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, for 12. England women were reduced to 23/3 in no time. However, the game shifted dramatically with the arrival of Heather Knight, who joined Sciver-Brunt in the middle.
The experienced pair launched an impressive recovery. Unshaken by the early collapse, Sciver-Brunt counter-attacked with a superb 75 from 47 balls, hitting 11 boundaries and a towering six. Knight first steadied the innings, then accelerated to match her partner’s tempo with an excellent 58 from 47 deliveries. Together, they destroyed South Africa’s bowlers and lifted England women to a strong 169/5 from 20 overs. Ismail (2-31) and Mlaba (2-25) were South Africa’s standout bowlers, but they lacked support on a surface that was drying quickly.

Relentless English bowling dismantles South Africa batting
Chasing 170 for a spot in the final, South Africa needed a flying start. While opening batter Tazmin Brits fought valiantly to anchor the innings, the rest of the batting order crumpled under a relentless English bowling assault. Brits managed a solid 51 off 45 balls. Meanwhile, the crucial turning point arrived when Sophie Ecclestone pulled off a magnificent, momentum-shifting catch to dismiss the dangerous South African skipper, Laura Wolvaardt, for just 17.
After the big wicket of Wolvaardt, England’s spinners and clever seamers tightened the game with clever changes of pace. Charlie Dean, without the responsibility of the captaincy today, led the bowling attack brilliantly, taking 2 for 31. Lauren Bell mirrored those figures with 2-28. Freya Kemp choked the middle-order scoring rate with brilliant slower deliveries, finishing with an economical 1-11 from her three overs.
South Africa’s chase completely lost its direction and finished at 129/8. Unsurprisingly, Nat Sciver-Brunt was named Player of the Match for her magnificent match-winning knock. With this comprehensive victory, England women comfortably marched into the final, maintaining their spectacular undefeated record in home World Cups. Now they will meet their arch-rivals Australia for the ultimate showdown on Sunday.
