It was a low-scoring game between defending champions MI New York (MINY) and Seattle Orcas in Pomona that saw the former walk away with a closely-fought five-run victory. Batting first, MINY put on 132/8 on the board with Quinton de Kock scoring 61 off 46. MINY were quite comfortably placed at 51/1 at the end of the powerplay before Marcus Stoinis broke the 47-run stand between de Kock and Nicholas Pooran (19).
De Kock got back to the pavilion with the score 99/3 in the 14th over, and from there on MI managed just 33 more runs for the loss of five wickets. Other than Stoinis (3/14), Jasdeep Singh (2/36) and Ottneil Baartman (2/23) played huge roles in restricting the opposition.
Behind in the chase
During the chase, MINY did not allow the Orcas to get off to a flying start, restricting them to 29/2 in the first six. Only Stoinis (36 off 31) gave the Orcas hope, but they could never string together a substantial partnership. As a result, they were behind in the chase throughout.
In the end, there was a 30-run stand between Jasdeep (16*) and Stoinis, but it was too late by then. However, with 14 needed off the final over, a six off the first ball from Stoinis gave the Orcas hope, but he was dismissed next ball. Jasdeep needed to clear the fence off the final ball to take the match into the super over, but he could not hit it beyond mid-wicket, handing MINY their second win in a row.
With this win, MINY jump to second on the points table, while the Orcas are just one place behind them, also on six points.
