Coach McCullum breaks silence on Ben Stokes’ retirement
England’s Test captain and star all-rounder Ben Stokes surprised everyone by suddenly announcing his retirement from international cricket. He announced his retirement during the third Test against New Zealand on Sunday, June 28th. England’s head coach Brendon McCullum has broken his silence on Stokes’ retirement. McCullum admitted that Stokes was completely firm on his decision and once he made up his mind, it was very difficult to stop him or change his decision.
McCullum said, “Yesterday when he told me he was retiring, I initially tried to dissuade him and persuade him. But in talking to him, it soon became clear that he had made up his mind and was completely satisfied with his decision.” McCullum further added, becoming emotional, “Coming to that point, you just feel a little sad because you’ve been on this journey together for the last four years, and it’s been an exciting journey. I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work so closely with Stokes, and I consider him a very good friend.”
“Not every wicket is an IPL wicket,” says Ravi Ashwin
The Indian team succumbed to a weak Irish team in the T20I series. In the first match, Ireland caused a major upset by defeating Team India by 34 runs. In the second match, Ireland defeated Team India by just one run, creating history by winning the two-match series 2-0. Following this crushing defeat, Team India is facing severe criticism. Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin also strongly criticized the Indian players. Ashwin believes the defeat wasn’t a surprise, but rather a stark reality check. According to him, Indian batsmen have become accustomed to the 24-carat batting pitches of the IPL, where shots are easy to play, and they may struggle when faced with the tougher conditions of international cricket.
