Cricketers to feature in every ICC Women’s T20 World Cup

The 10th edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in England and Wales this summer. Since the first T20 World Cup in 2009, we have witnessed nine thrilling editions that have transformed the landscape of women’s cricket globally.

At the heart of this history is an elite group of seven legendary players who have achieved the remarkable feat of participating in every single edition of the tournament. They have not only broken records but have also served as the backbone of the game’s global growth.

The legends who stayed

Ellyse Perry: The Australian all-rounder has represented her country more than 350 times across formats. She has also scored close to 8,000 runs, taken more than 300 wickets, and won all the major laurels for Australia. There is no surprise that she also holds the record for the most appearances in Women’s T20 World Cup history.

Suzie Bates: Bates has an international career spanning over 20 years, and she has already announced that this year’s Women’s T20 World Cup will be her swansong. She has so far scored 1,216 runs in this tournament- the current highest in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Sophie Devine: Bates’ teammate Devine is another trailblazer of women’s cricket in New Zealand, and together they have changed the status of the game in the country. As an all-rounder, Devine has made some of the most memorable contributions with both bat and ball, and her moment of glory came in 2024 when she led her team to their maiden T20 World Cup trophy.

Harmanpreet Kaur: Along with Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami, Harmanpreet is the face of Indian Women’s cricket over the last 15 years. She is also the only Indian player to take part in all editions of the T20 World Cup, scoring the first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup century by an Indian in 2018. After leading India to their maiden Women’s One-Day World Cup triumph, she would dearly love to complete the double.

Stafanie Taylor: The West Indian veteran is a Women’s T20 World Cup-winning captain. Her team stunned the Australians in the 2016 Women’s T20 World Cup final in front of a packed Eden Gardens, with Stafanie Taylor herself playing a key innings. She is, in fact, one of only three players to have more than 1,000 runs in this tournament.

Chamari Athapaththu: For over a decade, Athapaththu has been the face of Sri Lankan women’s cricket. She has scored close to 8,000 runs and taken more than 100 wickets. She is the only Sri Lankan to score a T20 International hundred, and 7 of the top 10 T20I scores by Sri Lankan women are hers. This time, Sri Lanka will also hope for a strong showing from her.

Marizanne Kapp: Kapp is one of the premier all-rounders in the game and a popular choice in the franchise leagues around the globe. She has led the South African bowling with her pace for more than a decade and played some handy innings at the death. She was part of the runners-up South African team in the latest edition of both T20 and ODI World Cups and will hope to go one better in the upcoming tournament.
