WATCH: Virat Kohli misses out on rare IPL record despite slamming 5 boundaries in an over

There aren’t many records Virat Kohli has not set or broken in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is the leading run-getter in the tournament with over 9,000 runs and also has the most centuries. Recently, he became only the third player to hit 300 sixes in the IPL. However, on April 30 (Thursday), he had a chance to hit six fours in an over, a feat that has been achieved by only three players in the IPL – Ajinkya Rahane (2012), Prithvi Shaw (2021) and Prabhsmiran Singh (2026).

Bowling his first over of the match, South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada was hit to the fence off his first five balls. The sixth one, too, was driven firmly down the ground, but Rabada got his foot down at the right time, and the ball deflected to mid-on. Therefore, Kohli missed a chance to be only the fourth cricketer to hit six fours in an over.

Rabada has the last laugh

In fact, Kohli is only the third Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) player to hit five fours in an over after Chris Gayle (2013) and Shane Watson (2016).

Rabada had the last laugh as he managed to get rid of Kohli in his next over for 28 off just 13. This is the fifth time Rabada has dismissed the Indian batter in T20 cricket.

Earlier, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill won the toss and had no hesitation in bowling first. GT are currently in fifth position with eight points, while RCB are in second place with 12 points. A win tonight will take the defending champions to the top of the table.
