It had been a long time coming for Jasprit Bumrah. He had not picked up a wicket for six matches before this and he finally struck off the very first ball of his spell against Gujarat Titans (GT) after 153 deliveries.

His first victim of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 was Sai Sudharsan, who just lobbed the ball straight to the man at point. Bumrah was ecstatic, and so were the Mumbai Indians (MI) side. Skipper Hardik Pandya hugged his premier bowler first and then he was engulfed by the rest of his teammates.
Poor run ends at last
Bumrah has never gone wicketless for such a long time in the IPL. He came into the tournament at the back of 4/15 against New Zealand, which are his best figures in T20Is.
However, since then, his figures have read: 0/35 vs KKR, 0/21 vs DC, 0/32 vs RR, 0/35 vs RCB and 0/41 vs PBKS.
Moreover, with the wicket of Sai Sudharsan, Bumrah surpassed Dwayne Bravo to become the sixth-highest wicket-taker in IPL history. Playing his 151st match, Bumrah has 184 wickets in the tournament so far with three four-wicket hauls and two fifers to his name.
MI will hope Bumrah’s return to form turns their fortunes around as they are currently at the bottom of the table and have lost four matches in a row coming into this match. Earlier, a sensational century from Tilak Varma took MI to 199/5.
