Virat Kohli leads the way as RCB emulate CSK, MI with second IPL title

It was yet another superb performance from Virat Kohli as his unbeaten 75 off 42 helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their second Indian Premier League (IPL) title. With this win, RCB have achieved what only Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have in 19 seasons. RCB have become only the third team to win an IPL title in back-to-back seasons.

Teams to win back-to-back IPL titles

CSK: 2010 & 2011
MI 2019 & 2020
RCB 2025 & 2026

Having gone 17 seasons without a single title, RCB have now won two in a row. Josh Hazlewood continues his streak of winning all his T20 finals – winning six in total. Venkatesh Iyer and Phil Salt have now won three in a row, while Krnal Pandya has won all five IPL finals he has participated in.

Moreover, Rajat Patidar (2) becomes the fourth captain to win multiple IPL titles after Rohit Sharma (5), MS Dhoni (5), and Gautam Gambhir (2).

Chasing 156 to win, RCB made a blistering start with Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer (32) putting on 62 off just 27 balls to set the tone. Despite losing a couple of wickets in quick succession, RCB kept calm and clinched victory by five wickets with two overs to spare against Gujarat Titans (GT).

Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers for GT, with figures of 2/25, while Arshad Khan, Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj finished with one wicket apiece. As far as their batting is concerned, no player really got going, but Washington Sundar top-scored with 50 off 37.
