East Zone clinch Duleep Trophy 2026
East Zone, captained by Ishan Kishan, has won the 2026 Duleep Trophy. The match against West Zone ended in a draw on the fifth day (September 10). However, East Zone was declared the winner. Ishan Kishan, who batted brilliantly for the team in both innings, was awarded the Player of the Match. East Zone completely dominated the match. After winning the toss and opting to bat, they posted 708/10 in their first innings.
Ishan Kishan scored 270 runs in the first innings. Kumar Kushagra also scored a century, hitting 8 fours and 5 sixes to score 101 runs. Batting in their first innings, South Zone were all out for 336, and East Zone had a lead of 372 runs. According to BCCI rules, if a knockout domestic red-ball match ends in a draw, the team with the first innings lead is awarded the trophy. Under this rule, East Zone was awarded the title.
Yash Thakur replaces injured Harshit Rana for Afghanistan T20Is and Asian Games
Indian fast bowler Yash Thakur has been given an opportunity in the T20 series against Afghanistan and the Asian Games squad. He has been included in both squads as a replacement for the injured Harshit Rana. Harshit has not fully recovered from a hamstring injury; he played his last international match for India during the tour of England. The BCCI confirmed the changes to the squads on Thursday.
Harshit Rana played his last international match for India during the England tour. Since then, he has been sidelined due to injury. Rana sustained a hamstring injury similar to the one Washington Sundar suffered. However, Sundar has now regained fitness and has been declared fit for the T20 series against Afghanistan.

India Team physio Kamlesh Jain resigns
The Indian cricket team is scheduled to play a three-match T20 series against Afghanistan, starting September 13th. Ahead of this series, significant news has emerged regarding the team’s support staff. National team physiotherapist Kamlesh Jain has resigned from his post. Jain, who assumed charge of Team India’s medical setup in June 2022, is currently completing his three-month notice period and awaiting release from the Board of Control for Cricket in India. If the BCCI does not release him sooner, the New Zealand tour ending in December could prove to be his last assignment with Team India. Kamlesh Jain’s resignation comes at a time when serious questions have long been raised about injury management in Indian cricket.
“October 2027 is still a long way off, we’ll see then”: Rohit
Regarding the possibility of playing in the 2027 World Cup, Rohit Sharma has stated that a decision will be made closer to the tournament. The World Cup is scheduled for October 2027 and will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Rohit has retired from Test and T20 cricket and now plays only ODIs. He addressed this while answering a question from the audience at the Global Fintech Fest. Rohit said, “October 2027 is still a long way off, we’ll see then.”
Rohit is set to play against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27. India will play three ODIs and five T20 matches against the West Indies. Rohit retired from the T20 format after winning the T20 World Cup on June 29, 2024, and subsequently announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7, 2025. He played his last ODI match during the tour of England on July 19 of this year; in that match at Lord’s, he scored 138 runs off 110 balls, although India lost both the match and the series.
