Captain Fatima Sana was the hero of the victory, claiming three wickets with a lethal bowling spell. Ayesha Zafar also played a pivotal role in the win by taking three wickets. “No place for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the Indian team,” says Ashwin
India suffered a defeat in the first T20 International against Ireland. Following this, discussions about 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s debut in the second match intensified. Former Indian great Ravichandran Ashwin made a surprising statement, stating that Vaibhav doesn’t have a place in Team India right now.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said, “There’s no place for Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the team right now. If he’s going to be given a chance, the selectors should send him on the Zimbabwe tour, where the current openers won’t be there. But that seems unlikely. Sanju Samson isn’t part of the Test and ODI squads, and the same is true for Abhishek Sharma. Previously, one player played all three formats. This year, preparations are underway for the ODI World Cup. If even T20 specialists don’t get opportunities, where will they play? Therefore, it wouldn’t be fair to him.”
Bangladesh ready to criminalise match-fixing & spot-fixing
The Bangladesh government is taking a major step to curb corruption and illegal betting in cricket. The Gambling Prevention Bill 2026, introduced in Parliament, proposes declaring match-fixing and spot-fixing as criminal offenses. If this bill becomes law, those found guilty in such cases could face a maximum of seven years in prison and a fine of up to 1 crore taka. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed introduced this bill in Parliament that aims to replace the Public Gambling Act of 1867 with a stricter legal framework for modern-day online gambling, betting, and match-fixing offenses. The proposed law categorizes all offenses as non-bailable. It defines 24 types of gambling and match-fixing offenses, with varying punishments depending on their severity.
“A strong start will increase your chances against Australia”: Smriti Mandhana
Star Indian opener Smriti Mandhana has expressed full confidence in her opening partner Shafali Verma ahead of the crucial upcoming match against Australia. She believes that if both batsmen are in good rhythm from the start, the team can lay the foundation for a big score. Smriti Mandhana said that she and Shafali Verma didn’t perform to their potential during the England tour, but now they are ready to put that experience behind them and give the team a strong start. She added that whenever the opening pair has formed a long partnership, it has directly benefited the Indian team. Therefore, in this crucial match, the two will aim to put together a strong partnership and put the team in a strong position.
‘The Indian team was playing with arrogance…’, said Srikkanth
Former Indian opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth has strongly criticized Team India for their humiliating defeat against Ireland in the first T20I in Belfast on June 26th . Hardly any fan expected the three-time T20 World Cup winner to face such a fate. Following this humiliating defeat, the Indian team has been widely mocked on social media.
Srikkanth said, “This is a very embarrassing defeat for India. How can you lose to Ireland with almost your entire core team except for Bumrah and Pandya? It’s truly astonishing that Ireland used their spinners to finish India off. The Indian team played with such arrogance as if they were sure to win the match. Their attitude on the field was similar. This is an eye-opening warning for India ahead of the big series against England.”
