BCCI makes major statement on Rohit-Virat’s participation in World Cup 2027

The Indian team has already begun its preparations for the upcoming World Cup 2027. Team India will play under the leadership of Shubman Gill. Several changes are being made to Team India in anticipation of the World Cup, and many young players are also receiving opportunities. However, the question remains: will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli represent India in the 2027 World Cup? The BCCI has responded to this question.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has commented on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s participation in the upcoming ODI World Cup. “I don’t think such discussions should be disclosed to the media or the public. These are strategic decisions and should be discussed within the boardroom. The BCCI has nothing to do with politics. We only run cricket. The decision on whether or not to play a series with a country is made according to the policies of the Indian government.”

Rishabh Pant is set to return to Delhi Capitals, trade to involve Kuldeep Yadav

Rishabh Pant, currently captaining the Lucknow Super Giants, could return to the Delhi Capitals in the 2027 IPL. Kuldeep Yadav is expected to replace Pant at Lucknow and could become a part of the team. Reports suggest that this exchange will be via trade. Lucknow acquired Pant for ₹27 crore in the 2025 mega auction, making him the most expensive player in the tournament’s history. Rishabh Pant decided to step down from captaincy after the Lucknow Super Giants were eliminated from the IPL 2026 playoff race. Pant failed to live up to his price tag in both batting and captaincy. In the 2025 season, he scored 269 runs for Lucknow. Then, in the following season, 2026, Pant scored 312 runs.

“Team India needs a mentor like Dhoni”: S. Sreesanth

Gautam Gambhir is the head coach of Team India. Under his leadership, the Indian team has won the 2025 Champions Trophy and the 2026 T20 World Cup titles. However, the team’s performance in Test cricket has been disappointing. Now, former Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth has called for Gambhir’s removal as head coach and suggested bringing MS Dhoni into the support staff.

Now, Sreesanth advocated for bringing MS Dhoni into the team as a mentor and removing Gautam Gambhir from the head coach position. He said, “There is a need to change the coach. India needs a mentor, not a coach. I have an issue with his coaching style; he puts too much pressure on the players. You need a mentor. Dhoni never puts pressure on players, nor does he drop them from the team after a poor performance. Team India needs a mentor like Dhoni.”

Yuvraj Singh joining the coaching staff of Delhi Capitals

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh is joining the coaching staff of Delhi Capitals. The franchise will appoint Sourav Ganguly as head coach. DC co-owner JSW will take control of the team for two years, starting in IPL 2027. It’s worth noting that DC is one of the few teams that has yet to win the Indian Premier League title.

This will be the first time Yuvraj Singh will be part of an IPL team’s coaching staff. According to a Times of India report, the source said, “Who wouldn’t want a legend like Yuvraj Singh in the dugout? His teammates like Ashish Nehra, Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan have all coached in the IPL. Yuvraj might be joining a little late, but he has spent a lot of time grooming young players and in this role.”

PCB to introduce new central contract pay structure

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to give its players a significant gift in the 2026-27 season. The board is considering a historic change in its central contract system. According to reports, players in the ‘A’ category will now receive 1.5 million Pakistani rupees per Test match. Their monthly retainer, before taxes, will be in the range of 4 million rupees. The B-category is for white-ball cricketers, covering ODIs and T20 cricket. The C-category will then include players who play only T20 Internationals and franchise leagues. Pakistani players will benefit the most from winning an ICC trophy. Track A and Track B players will receive 500% more match fees for winning an ICC title. Winning the Asia Cup will also provide a 300% increase.

Kumar Sangakkara returns to cricket wearing Indian helmet

Former Sri Lankan batting great and Rajasthan Royals coach Kumar Sangakkara retired from international cricket in 2015. He recently returned to action and made the headlines with his knock against Broadstone CC, smashing 168 runs in a breathtaking display of strokeplay. He smashed 130 of his 168 runs of boundaries, hiting 16 fours and 11 sixes. But his helmet made more headlines than his innings. Sangakkara wore a helmet with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) logo, sparking reactions from fans on social media. During IPL 2026, Yashasvi Jaiswal of Rajasthan gifted him the helmet, and he now plays cricket wearing it.
