With the series already lost, Bangladesh were playing for nothing but pride in the third One-Day International (ODI) against Zimbabwe in Harare. They got over the line with utmost ease, chasing down 200 with seven wickets and 14 overs to spare.
Initially, Shoriful Islam did the damage, picking up 4/44. He was well supported by Taskin Ahmed (2/32), Tanvir Islam (2/37) and Mohammad Saifuddin (1/31) as Zimbabwe were bundled out for just 199 in 48.1 overs.
Wessly Madhevere (75) and Brad Evans (50) scored vital half-centuries but could not take Zimbabwe to a comfortable total. Evans followed up his fifty from the second ODI with another one today to give his side a chance. Their skipper and premier pacer Richard Ngarava was rested for today’s game, with Sikandar Raza taking charge of the side.
Easy chase for Bangladesh
After the bowlers did the damage, Tanzid (94) and Soumya Sarkar (69) put on 151 for the first wicket, which took the game completely away from the hosts. However, Zimbabwe did pick up three wickets in a span of seven overs, but that was not enough in the end.
Pacer Ernest Masuku picked up a couple of wickets, while Tinaka Chivanga were among the wickets. However, that did not trigger a collapse for the Asian side, as it did in the first two games.
This is Bangladesh’s first win on this tour. They lost the one-off Test by an innings and 85 runs. They lost the first two ODIs by 25 runs and 13 runs, respectively, before pulling off a consolation win.
The tour continues with the three-match T20 International (T20I) series in Bulawayo, starting July 15.
