Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Rohit Sharma will not take any part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on April 16 (Thursday). He sustained a hamstring injury during the clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and had to walk off in the middle of the run chase.
During the toss, MI skipper Hardik Pandya admitted that it could take “a couple of games” for the former MI skipper to recover. “Rohit is out from the last game. He’s gonna take a couple of games for him to see how exactly where he is,” Hardik said.
To add to MI’s woes, spinner Mitchell Santner too is unavailable for this game as he is unwell. Quinton de Kock is set to play his first game of the season, as a result and batter Mayank Rawat makes his IPL debut.
Poor start by MI in IPL 2026
MI have not been in the best of forms this season, having won just one of their four matches before this. They are currently in ninth spot, with just Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) below them.
“Time to play some good cricket, time to get that W win. So, yes, I think we played decent cricket. It’s just that in a couple of overs, we have not been able to capitalise and we have been, kind of losing those big moments. And we’re just gonna speak about that and just make sure that in this game, we come out there and make sure that those little battles, we keep winning it,” Hardik said at the toss.
