MS Dhoni is yet to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. As a result, there have been speculations of his legendary IPL career being over. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in their final game of the group stage. A win could see them book a place in the playoffs, depending on other results as well.
However, CSK batting coach Michael Hussey has confirmed that the former skipper has not travelled with the team to Ahmedabad. But he is expected to be available for the playoffs if CSK qualify.
“I can confirm he [Dhoni] is not here [Ahmedabad] with the team, but if we do happen to qualify, then he will definitely join back up with the team,” Hussey told reporters on May 20 (Wednesday).
Fresh injury concerns?
Dhoni was only set to miss the initial stages of the tournament due to a calf injury. But according to Hussy, the five-time IPL winner is now recovering from a thumb injury.
“He [Dhoni] has got a bit of a sore thumb, so it is recovering nicely, but he would not be ready for this match. But hopefully, if we can manage to get through to the playoffs, then hopefully he will be alright,” Hussey said.
CSK made a torrid start to the season, losing the first three matches. However, they pulled things back, registering six wins in their next 10 games to stay alive in the tournament. A win over GT may not take them to the next round, but it will certainly give them a glimmer of hope.
