IPL 2026: Cameron Green is KKR’s ‘biggest mistake’, says Mohammad Kaif

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has laid sharp criticism over Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR} tactical decisions in IPL 2026. He pointed out that changing Andre Russell’s role and bringing him in coaching has completely backfired, comparing with Cameron Green’s recent performances.

The struggles have deepened for KKR as they have now lost 4 of their 5 matches in IPL 2026. Their only point has come from a washed-out game against the Punjab Kings. They have been beaten by Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants.

CSK defeat will break KKR’s confidence

A major talking point in these defeats has been Cameron Green’s form. He was picked for INR 25.20 crore and he has failed to live up to expectations. His batting position at number six does not go with his natural game, and he has struggled to make an impact.

“Probably the biggest mistake KKR made this season was to make Andre Russell the coach and not use him as an all-rounder,” Kaif wrote on social media. “Isn’t he still a better all-rounder than the Rs 25 crore Cameron Green? The answer is obvious.”

Mohammad Kaif clearly wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that KKR has made the biggest mistake by making Andre Russell the coach rather than keeping him in the team to play. Green, however, has hardly been used as a bowler by the Knight Riders. The tall Australian has only bowled two 2-over spells this campaign, picking up one wicket. On Tuesday, they lost to Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk, where they were bowled out for 160 chasing 192.
