IPL 2026 Bulletin: Major Talking Points | May 4, 2026

Mumbai Indians beat LSG by 6 wickets

After four consecutive defeats, the Mumbai Indians (MI) finally secured a win at their home Wankhede Stadium. In their do-or-die match of IPL 2026, Mumbai defeated the similarly struggling Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Playing in the match without captain Hardik Pandya, Mumbai benefited from the return of former captain Rohit Sharma, who scored a strong half-century and shared a century partnership with Ryan Rickelton. This helped Mumbai achieve the target of 229 runs with eight balls to spare. This was Mumbai’s first win after three consecutive defeats.

Pooran scores second-fastest fifty for LSG in IPL 2026

Former West Indies middle-order batter Nicholas Pooran struck the second-fastest fifty for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Indian Premier League (IPL) history on January 31, 2026, scoring 63 runs from 21 balls against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium. He came two deliveries short of breaking his own franchise record. Pooran’s innings included four fours and eight sixes, three of which came off all-rounder Will Jacks.

His half-century arrived in 16 balls, just one delivery slower than his fastest IPL fifty for LSG, which came in 15 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during the 2023 season. The eight sixes equalled the joint-second highest number hit by an LSG batter in an innings, behind Quinton de Kock’s 10 sixes against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2022. This was Pooran’s fifth IPL half-century scored in fewer than 20 balls.

IPL 2026’s TRP dropping, big fall in popularity

IPL 2026 is already past the halfway mark, and honestly, things aren’t looking the way most people expected. The league has a reputation for being fast-paced and thrilling, but where’s all the buzz? The TRPs have taken a big hit. And it’s not just about the numbers on TV. The league isn’t connecting with viewers or pulling in advertisers this season, which is a pretty big deal.

As media reports says, IPL 2026’s TRP dropped by 18.8 percent—sliding from 4.57 last season to just 3.71 now. Average viewership is down by 26 percent. Even the league’s overall reach fell, dropping 8.3 percent from 124 million to 113.6 million. That’s a steep decline, and people are starting to notice.
