IPL 2026 Bulletin: Major Talking Points | April 8, 2026

Gujarat Titans defeated Delhi Capitals by 1 run

Gujarat Titans defeated Delhi Capitals by 1 run in a nail-biting match. Delhi needed 2 runs to win off the last 2 balls. David Miller was at the crease, but fast bowler Prasidh Krishna bowled both the balls as dots. Miller’s refusal to take a single off the fifth ball proved to be the biggest reason for Delhi’s defeat. Had he taken a single, the scores would have been level, and the outcome could have been different. Miller’s explosive innings had given Delhi hope of a win in a near-lost match, but his refusal to take a single off the fifth ball turned Miller from a hero to a villain.

The match played at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium changed several times. Initially, it seemed Gujarat would win easily, but the 19th over completely changed the match. Siraj conceded 23 runs in the 19th over. From there, only 13 runs were needed from the last over. Prasidh Krishna performed brilliantly in the final over and gave Gujarat the victory. Batting first after losing the toss, Gujarat Titans scored 210 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their allotted overs. Delhi ended their chase just one run short of it.

“Give him the Team India cap right now,” Irfan Pathan lauds Vaibhav Suryavanshi

There is no doubt that in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) this season, the “super kid” Vaibhav Suryavanshi has emerged as a major star. The explosive impact of this brief yet devastating innings has been such that numerous legends of the game are now demanding that Vaibhav be handed his Team India cap as soon as possible. Appealing to the BCCI and the Chairman of the Selection Committee to “take a risk,” former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan stated that what impressed him most was Suryavanshi’s attitude while facing Jasprit Bumrah.

Pathan said, “Suryavanshi is a child of destiny. And what he is achieving in white-ball cricket at the age of 15 is something we have never witnessed before. This miraculous 15-year-old boy declared, ‘I am waiting for Jasprit Bumrah. Last year, I got out against him. This year, I’m going to come back and hit him.’ And true to his word, he smashed Bumrah on the very first delivery.”

“We could have played smarter”: Axar Patel

The Gujarat Titans edged out the Delhi Capitals by just one run in a nail-biter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. It looked like the visitors were done for, but they managed to snatch victory on the very last ball. Delhi needed 211 to win, and KL Rahul nearly carried them there with a brilliant 92. After Rahul got out, David Miller jumped in, smashing 41 off just 20 balls and almost pulling off the chase.

With only 2 runs needed from 2 balls, Delhi had the match in their grasp. But then came a dot ball and a run-out, crushing their hopes right at the end. Afterward, Axar Patel said he was proud of the team, though this loss stings.

After the match Axar said, “Yeah, obviously the way we are playing, I think both teams played a very good, I think, a very good cricket. And yeah, I think, this type of close game, you can, you know, point out anything. So I think, yes, we played very good cricket. As I said earlier, in a close chase, in a close game, you can point out a lot of things. But I think in the chase, I think we could have played smarter. The crucial time at which the wickets fell, I think, if that hadn’t happened, we could have finished the chase earlier. (on KL Rahul) Yeah, obviously, he played a very good innings. And if you know, the way the power play was going, after that, he kept the momentum going. When the wickets were falling, he kept the momentum going from one side. He did not let the run-rate go down. So I think it was very good batting. I think we are playing good cricket, and yes, we will finish in the next match.”
