The Indian team defeated Sri Lanka XI by 6 wickets in a warm-up match played in Colombo. Team India was set a target of 207 runs to win this clash. Chasing the target, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a brilliant start, sharing a century partnership for the first wicket. Gill was dismissed for 44 runs, hitting 7 fours in this 54-ball innings. His arrival on the field was good news for Team India, as he had not batted in the first innings due to a finger injury. KL Rahul took over in his place in the practice match.
Today, on the third day, India declared their first innings at 357. Sri Lanka XI had a 6-run lead based on their first innings. Sri Lanka opener Nishan Fernando scored 63 runs in the second innings before retiring hurt. Gurnur Brar and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each for India in the second innings. India were set a target of 207 runs to win.
Gill came out to bat in the second innings
Mohammed Siraj also played a key role in this victory with a blistering 32 off just 15 balls. Siraj hit 4 sixes in his innings, 3 of which came in a single over. His attacking batting helped India achieve the target with 3 balls to spare, kicking off their Sri Lanka tour preparations with a win.
The best news for India today was that Shubman Gill came out to bat. It’s worth noting that the Indian skipper injured his finger during fielding practice before the match. He didn’t play or field in the first innings. KL Rahul captained the side in his place. Gill scored 44 runs today, hitting seven fours. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was dismissed for a duck in the first innings, scored 61 runs in 46 balls with two sixes and nine fours before retiring hurt.
