Notably, this is the first time such an event has occurred in the first innings of a Test match.
After winning the toss at Edgbaston, England elected to bowl first (ENG vs PAK). Pakistan’s innings lasted just 33.5 overs. In response, England reached 156/4 in 39 overs by the close of play on day one, securing a 23-run lead over Pakistan. Harry Brook (52) and Dan Lawrence (5) remained unbeaten.
Fifties for Emilio Gay and Harry Brook
Emilio Gay scored 60 runs for England. He shared a 104-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Harry Brook. Gay was dismissed by Razaullah after scoring 60 off 114 balls. Earlier, Ben Duckett (11) was caught by Babar Azam off the bowling of Mohammad Ali.
Jordan Cox (4) was trapped LBW by Mohammad Abbas, while Joe Root (8) was dismissed LBW by Razaullah. At stumps (ENG vs PAK), Harry Brook (52) and Dan Lawrence (5) were at the crease. Brook hit four boundaries during his 76-ball innings. Razaullah bowled impressively on his Test debut, taking 2 wickets. Mohammad Abbas and Mohammad Ali claimed one wicket each.
