T20 World Cup 2026: Australia found themselves under a ton of pressure after crashing out of the T20 World Cup 2026 in the first round. And the disappointment was quite vivid all over the players’ faces as they just didn’t live up to expectations. But in their last game, they flipped the script, crushing Oman in a match that felt almost effortless. Mitchell Marsh led from the front and Australia wrapped things up with a commanding 9-wicket win. Though they were already out, but they left the tournament with their heads held high.

This last group match was on February 20 at Pallekele Stadium in Sri Lanka. The outcome didn’t matter for the standings as both Super 8 spots from Group B were already locked up. Neither Australia nor Oman had a shot at advancing, so the match was really just for pride. For Oman, it was about soaking up experience on the big stage. For Australia, it was a chance to walk away with some dignity.
Oman batted first and things unraveled right away. Xavier Bartlett knocked out Aamir Kaleem with the very first ball. After that, Oman’s batting just fell apart. Their top four were all bowled out, which actually set a new record in T20 World Cup history, definitely not the kind you want. Wasim Ali tried to hold things together for a while, but Oman ended up all out for just 104. Adam Zampa was on fire for Australia, grabbing four wickets and both Glenn Maxwell and Bartlett chipped in with two each.
Chasing 105, Australia looked totally relaxed. Everyone wanted to see just how quickly they’d get the job done. Marsh, back from injury after missing the first match, wasted no time. He went after the bowlers straight away, smashing his half-century in only 26 balls. Travis Head pitched in with a speedy 32, and together they piled on 93 for the opening stand and basically putting the game to bed.

Once Head got out, Josh Inglis joined Marsh and calmly finished things off. Australia chased down the target in just 9.4 overs, making a real statement with their aggressive approach. They didn’t make the Super 8’s, but this win definitely gave the team a much-needed boost. It sent a clear message: even if things start rough, this squad still has the firepower to bounce back strong next time.
