There has been a major change in the Indian Test team for the Sri Lanka tour. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been replaced by Auqib Nabi. Nabi is only the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to be selected for test team of India. The two-Test series against Sri Lanka begins in Galle on August 15th.
Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of Team India’s squad on Sunday. According to media reports, he hasn’t recovered from a knee injury. The team management and BCCI have decided not to take any risks with him, considering his long career.
Nabi is the first cricketer from Jammu & Kashmir to be selected in the Test team
23-year-old Auqib Nabi performed brilliantly in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy. Now, he has earned a call-up to the Indian Test team. He is the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to be selected for the Test team. Parvez Rasool and Umran Malik, also from Jammu and Kashmir, have also been selected for the Indian team, but they have only been selected for the ODI and T20 teams.
Took a total of 104 wickets in two Ranji seasons
Auqib’s performances in the knockout matches were particularly impressive. He bowled decisive overs against Madhya Pradesh in the quarterfinals, Bengal in the semifinals, and Karnataka in the final. These performances not only helped Jammu and Kashmir win their first Ranji Trophy title but also demonstrated his composure under pressure.
Shubman Gill will lead the Indian Test team on the Sri Lanka tour. KL Rahul will be the vice-captain. Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel are the wicketkeepers in the team. Winning this series is crucial for India to reach the World Test Championship final. India lost the last home Test series against South Africa 0-2.
