Nepal and Japan shared the points in the Asian Games 2026 clash in Nisshin on September 26 (Saturday) due to a washout. Sundeep Jora (57*) and Lokesh Ban (52*) slammed impressive half-centuries to take Nepal to 149/4 in 15 overs before the rains came down and no play was possible after that. As a result, Nepal finished on top of the Group A table with three points, while Afghanistan finished second, and Japan ended the campaign at the bottom.

With this result, India will now take on Afghanistan in the quarter-final of the Asian Games 2026 on September 28 (Monday). Nepal, on the other hand, will face Sri Lanka in their quarter-final clash on September 29 (Tuesday).

While Afghanistan have never beaten India in T20Is, this will be the first-ever meeting between Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Nepal beat Afghanistan by five wickets to consolidate their place, while a win over Japan was good enough for Afghanistan to progress. Had Japan beaten Nepal by a certain margin, they would have made it to the quarters, but it wasn’t to be.

India Women secured gold, beating Sri Lanka in the final, and the Men’s side would now look to complete a sweep in cricket.

Japan pushed India close ahead of the Asian Games, falling short by just two runs against the three-time T20 World Cup winners.

India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were given an automatic entry into the Asian Games quarter-final due to their superior rankings.

The two semi-finals will be played on October 1 (Thursday), followed by the bronze medal and the gold medal matches on October 3 (Saturday).
