The Indian women’s cricket team has created history at the Asian Games 2026. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team has won its second consecutive Asian Games gold medal. India defeated Sri Lanka in the Asian Games women’s cricket final held in Nagoya. Previously, India won the gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Incheon. India won the final by 147 runs. This is the Indian women’s cricket team’s largest victory in terms of runs in a T20 International.

India scored a record tag of 216 runs against Sri Lanka powered by Smriti’s half-century (79 off 45 balls; seven sixes, five fours) and her explosive 99-run opening partnership with Shafali (48 off 29 balls; three sixes, three fours). Richa Ghosh played a pivotal role in taking India past the 200-run mark with her explosive batting in the death overs (scoring an unbeaten 49 off 22 balls, including six fours and three sixes).

The Lankan team collapsed for 69 runs. Opener and captain Chamari Athapaththu top-scored for Sri Lanka with 29 runs, while Kavisha Dilhari made 11 runs. Deepti Sharma took three wickets for India, while Shafali Verma, Shreyanka Patil, and Shree Charani each took two wickets. This is the biggest defeat for the Sri Lankan women’s team in T20 International history. Before this, Sri Lanka suffered its biggest defeat by 132 runs against Australia in North Sydney in 2019.

With this match, the Indian women’s team achieved their eighth consecutive T20I win, their longest winning streak in this format, surpassing the record of seven consecutive wins set in 2018. Sri Lanka last defeated India in the 2024 Asia Cup final, but since then, the Indian team has maintained its eight-match winning streak against Sri Lanka in T20Is.
