Joe Root creates history, breaks Tendulkar’s world record
England captain Joe Root equaled the great record of former Indian team’s legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar in fewer matches by scoring a fifty in the first Test being played against Pakistan at Headingley. Root scored 66 runs with the help of 10 fours while batting for England in the first innings on the second day. With this, he became the first batsman to jointly score the most fifties in Test cricket and equaled Sachin.
This was Root’s 68th fifty in Test cricket. Meanwhile, the legendary Tendulkar also scored 68 half-centuries in his Test career. The only difference is that Root equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s world record in fewer matches.
Sachin had scored 68 fifties in 200 Tests, while Root achieved this feat in just his 167th Test. Root will have a chance to surpass Sachin in this very match. He could become the batsman with the most fifties in Tests by scoring a fifty in England’s second innings. It will be interesting to see when Root surpasses Sachin.
Sam Curran ruled out of England’s summer season
The England cricket team has suffered a major setback. Star all-rounder Sam Curran has been ruled out for the entire season due to injury. It was initially expected that Curran would return for the ongoing Test series against Pakistan, but that did not materialize. The English all-rounder, who is suffering from a groin injury, will now undergo surgery.
He last played a Test in July 2021. Curran will undergo surgery after The Hundred, making him unavailable for England for the rest of the season. Curran’s teammate, Will Jacks, has also been ruled out of the Pakistan series after undergoing appendicitis surgery. It will be interesting to see when Jacks returns.
A statement issued by Surrey regarding Sam Curran said, “Sam Curran’s groin injury has been assessed and he will undergo surgery on Friday. He will not be available for the remainder of the home season.”
BCCI faces challenge regarding Mohsin Naqvi ahead of the 2026 Asia Cup
The Indian women’s cricket team is currently preparing for the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2026, scheduled to be held in Dubai from August 28 to September 13. ICC gives Lahore stadium a clean chit
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given Pakistan a major reprieve. The ICC has withdrawn the demerit point awarded to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. In June of this year, a one-day series was played between Pakistan and Australia, with one match played at this ground. Questions had been raised about the pitch at the Gaddafi Stadium.
The match referee had rated the pitch as unsatisfactory. Following this, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appealed, and the ICC has granted them significant relief. The stadium has also been awarded a demerit point. The ICC made this decision after reviewing photographs and videos of the pitch.
Spain creates history, sets world record for most consecutive wins in cricket
The Spanish football team won the 2026 FIFA World Cup by defeating Argentina in the final. But now the Spanish cricket team has achieved what even the most prestigious cricket teams have failed to achieve. Spain has set the record for winning the most consecutive international matches in cricket history. Previously, this record was held by Australia.
Spain hasn’t lost an international match since 2023. It took the team nearly three years to set this world record. Australia had won 20 consecutive international matches in 2003. Spain has surpassed this record by a significant margin. The team has now won 24 consecutive international matches.
