WI vs PAK: On the opening day of the second Test between West Indies and Pakistan at Queen’s Park Oval, Pakistan’s spinners maintained a grip on the match for a long period, but West Indies batters eventually gained the upper hand. By the close of play on a rain-affected day, the hosts had reached 239 for 5. Justin Greaves (55) and captain Roston Chase (36) remained unbeaten. An unbroken 66-run partnership for the sixth wicket between the two put West Indies in a strong position.
Spinners Turn the Tide After Rain
After winning the toss, West Indies made a brisk start, adding 49 runs in under 10 overs, but play was halted by rain. Just before the rain interruption, Mohammad Ali gave Pakistan their first breakthrough by claiming the wicket of Tagenarine Chanderpaul (16). Subsequently, Ali Usman and Sajid Khan spun a web around the batters. Usman claimed the first wicket of his Test career by dismissing Brandon King (46), while Sajid increased the pressure on West Indies by removing Kavem Hodge.
Greaves and Chase Stabilize the Innings
Shai Hope (29) and Amir Jangoo (26) attempted to steady the innings, but debutant Ubaid Shah dismissed Jangoo to secure Pakistan’s fourth wicket. However, Justin Greaves then batted magnificently, capitalizing fully on loose deliveries. After Shai Hope fell for 47, it appeared Pakistan might quickly wrap up the lower order; instead, captain Roston Chase provided excellent support to Greaves. The duo batted sensibly, denying Pakistan any further success before the close of play.
Challenge Ahead for Pakistan
On Day 2, West Indies will aim to post a total exceeding 300 runs, while Pakistan will strive to claim the remaining five wickets as quickly as possible. Mohammad Ali has been the most successful bowler for the Pakistan team so far, claiming two wickets for 49 runs in 17 overs. Additionally, Ubaid Shah, Ali Usman, and Sajid Khan took one wicket each.
Brief scores: West Indies 239/5 (Justin Greaves 64*, Brandon King 46; Mohammad Ali 2-49) vs Pakistan.
