Shubman-Arshdeep to play in Sher-e-Punjab T20 League
With an aim to provide a new platform to cricket talent in Punjab, Sher-e-Punjab T20 League was launched in a grand fashion. Launched on the initiative of Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), this league will give the young players of the state an opportunity to showcase their talent at the professional level. The first edition of the competition will be held from August 30 to September 13, in which six franchises will compete for the title. Punjab T20 League
Several prominent players, including Indian cricket team captain Shubman Gill and fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, were present at the league’s opening ceremony. The official logo of the tournament was also unveiled. Six franchises from Amritsar, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mohali, and Fazilka will participate in the tournament. All teams will play in a round-robin format, with a total of 27 matches to determine the winning team. The player auction for the first edition will be held on August 9th. Each franchise will have to build its team within a set budget.
Subhadeep Ghosh appointed as India’s new fielding coach
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Subhadeep Ghosh as the new fielding coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, replacing T Dilip, whose contract was not renewed following the white-ball tour of England. A former Assam first-class cricketer, Ghosh brings extensive coaching experience, having worked with the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, India A, the India U-19 and women’s teams, and IPL franchises such as Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. He is expected to join the squad ahead of the upcoming Test tour of Sri Lanka as India looks to strengthen its fielding standards.
India defeats Pakistan by 2 wickets
The sixth match of the Asian Legends League 2026 was played between the Indian Royals and the Pakistan Panthers. The Indian team displayed a brilliant performance and defeated the Pakistan Panthers by two wickets. Rishi Dhawan and Sarul Kanwar were the batting stars for the Indian Royals. Shadab Jakati and Subodh Bhati took two wickets each. Rishi Dhawan played a brilliant innings of 50 runs with the bat in this match. He also took one wicket with the ball.
Indian Royals won the toss and decided to bowl first. Pakistan Panthers team could score 167 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Chasing the target, the Indian Royals scored 171 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 17.4 overs, winning by two wickets. This is the Indian Royals’ second consecutive win in this tournament. Previously, they had defeated the Bangladesh Tigers.
Sri Lanka women’s team beat Pakistan by 6 wickets
After the excellent performance of the bowlers, thanks to the explosive batting of Sanjana Kavindi (46) and captain Chamari Atapattu (40), Sri Lankan women’s team defeated Pakistan by six wickets with 14 balls to spare in the second T20 match on Sunday. With this win, Sri Lanka has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Chasing the target of 176 runs, Sri Lankan women’s team scored 178 runs for four wickets in 17.4 overs and won the match by six wickets.
Joe Root’s big revelation on becoming the England again
Recently, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) reappointed veteran batsman Joe Root as the Test team captain. Former New Zealand legend Stephen Fleming has been appointed the new head coach. Root has replaced Ben Stokes, and Fleming has replaced Brendon McCullum. McCullum will continue to coach the ODI and T20 teams. 35-year-old Joe Root said that Stephen Fleming’s coaching was the reason he agreed to take over the Test team captaincy again.
