IND vs BAN: After a year of uncertainty, relations between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are expected to improve. According to a TOI report, the two boards are working on scheduling India’s tour of Bangladesh in the first week of September. The BCCI is reportedly considering postponing the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in Delhi to make time for the white-ball series in Bangladesh. Final approval for this series will come from the Indian government, but the boards want all plans ready by the time approval is granted.
Last year, India refused to tour Bangladesh due to diplomatic tensions. Subsequently, Bangladesh withdrew from the T20 World Cup in India in January after Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from the IPL. TOI has learned that the BCB has kept all its venues vacant from September 1st as it is presenting several options to the BCCI so that they can choose from their convenience. The BCB is also open to the idea of holding all matches at a single venue.
India last toured Bangladesh in 2022
A BCCI source told TOI, “The Bangladesh Cricket Board wants three T20I matches at one venue and three ODI matches at another. Dhaka and Chattogram are the main venues for this. Both boards discussed this during the recent ICC meeting in London.”
Meanwhile, Cricbuzz reports that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) intends to host India between September 1 and 13. If the tour is finalized, the dates of the India-Afghanistan T20 series are almost certain to be rescheduled. Time constraints also pose a significant challenge for both boards. The Asian Games are scheduled to begin on September 24, while the West Indies team is scheduled to tour India on September 27. Therefore, postponing the series for long will be impossible.
Earlier on July 24th, news emerged that the Indian government had invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman to the 18th BRICS summit in September. This has raised hopes in the cricketing world that the proposed six-match white-ball series between the two countries could take place.
