IND vs ZIM: India ends losing streak, beat Zimbabwe by 7 wickets in first T20I

IND vs ZIM: The losing streak has finally ended for India’s T20 team. After losing six consecutive matches against Ireland and England, India started the series (IND vs ZIM) by defeating Zimbabwe by seven wickets. The biggest hero of this victory was 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who played a major role in Team India’s victory by scoring the first fifty of his international career. In the match played at Harare Sports Club, the hosts batted first and set a target of 126 runs, which India achieved with seven wickets remaining.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shines in India’s victory

After scoring 14, 13, and 15 runs in the first three innings against England, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dropped from the final match. All eyes were on him. This time, Vaibhav did not disappoint the Indian fans. Even after Abhishek Sharma (1) was dismissed for a combined score of 23, Sooryavanshi continued to attack the bowlers. He scored a half-century in 18 balls, including four fours and as many sixes. When the 15-year-old batsman was dismissed, India had scored 68 runs in 6.2 overs. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer then scored 35 and 28 runs respectively to take the team across the threshold of victory.

First win under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy

The Indian bowling was on full display in the first T20I against Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe lost four batsmen for just 32. Ultimately, Ryan Burl (26), Wessly Madhevere (39), and Tadiwanashe Marumani (27) managed to score 125 runs. Mayank Yadav and Priyam Yadav took two wickets each in their four overs, conceding 18 and 19 runs, respectively. Ravi Bishnoi and Shivam Dubey also took one wicket each. Ashok Sharma, playing his first match, was the only bowler without a wicket. The Indian bowling has been under scrutiny recently, making this a commendable performance.

This victory holds special significance for Indian captain Shreyas Iyer. This is his first victory in the Indian team as captain. With a 1-0 lead, Team India has taken a big step towards winning the series. The second match will be played on July 25th at the Harare Sports Club.
