The Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham is set for a major transformation as part of an ambitious multi-million-pound redevelopment project aimed at turning the historic venue into a year-round destination for sport, hospitality and the local community.
A New Stand
The centrepiece of the latest phase of the Edgbaston Masterplan is a new 3,200-seat stand, integrated with a 146-room Radisson RED hotel, scheduled to open ahead of the 2027 Ashes Test. The stand will be named after Warwickshire legend Dennis Amiss, honouring one of the county’s greatest-ever cricketers.
The redevelopment will replace the former Raglan and Priory Stands, originally built in 1958, and will include enhanced spectator concourses, improved accessibility, upgraded food and beverage facilities, pitch-facing hotel rooms, convertible hospitality suites for matchdays and a rooftop restaurant overlooking the Birmingham skyline.
Edgbaston already contributes around GBP 35 million annually to the local economy. That figure is projected to rise to GBP 40 million following the redevelopment and could reach GBP 70 million during years when the venue hosts major international tournaments. The project is also expected to support more than 1,000 jobs during construction while creating over 100 permanent roles once completed.
An ‘Exciting Project’
“We’re incredibly pleased with the progress being made on the hotel development, which continues to move forward positively and marks another significant milestone in the evolution of Edgbaston as a year-round destination,” Adam Lowe, Warwickshire commercial director, said.
“This is a hugely exciting project, not just for Warwickshire County Cricket Club but for the wider region. The Radisson RED hotel will enhance the experience for visitors, partners and guests, while creating new opportunities to attract major events, conferences and tourism to the area.
“As we continue to invest in the stadium and its surrounding infrastructure, this development reinforces our long-term ambition to ensure Edgbaston remains one of the leading sports and entertainment venues in the country. We’re looking forward to seeing the project take shape and the lasting benefits it will deliver for both the stadium and the local community.”
The redevelopment forms Phase 3.3 of the long-term Edgbaston Masterplan, which began in 2011 with the redevelopment of the South and West Stands. Recent additions have included the Skyline rooftop terrace, the Corkfield Apartment Complex and Xcelerate with Edgbaston, a hospitality training and apprenticeship centre operated in partnership with Levy UK + Ireland.
Home to Warwickshire County Cricket Club since 1882, Edgbaston also hosts Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred. The venue has continued to invest heavily in women’s cricket, with Warwickshire Women turning fully professional in 2025 and a dedicated high-performance centre under development.
During the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Edgbaston also recorded the highest group-stage attendance of the tournament, welcoming 18,814 spectators.
