England A women dismantle India A women to claim a dominant win

A dominant, all-round performance from England A women saw them crush India A women by 125 runs in the second List A match of the series at The Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton. After winning the toss and electing to bat, England A rode on a magnificent 97 from Jodi Grewcock to post a formidable 298/5. Then their spin department took the charge and dismantled the visitors’ batting unit, bowling them out for 173.

Jodi Grewcock takes charge with a composed 97

England’s innings revolved around a composed 97 from top-order batter Jodi Grewcock. She opened with Ella McCaughan (44), adding 81 for the first wicket to give England A a strong platform. After McCaughan fell, Grewcock combined with Grace Scrivens, who struck 59 off 56 balls, for a polished 126-run second-wicket stand. This put India A’s spinners firmly on the back foot.

Grewcock missed a deserving century by three runs, falling for 97 off 127 balls with 11 fours. But England A kept the momentum going. Niamh Holland supplied a blistering late surge, finishing unbeaten on 41 from 19 balls at a strike rate of 215.78. With Charis Pavely adding a handy 30 not out, England A women plundered 90 runs in the final ten overs. For India A women, off-spinner Vaishnavi Sharma stood out with 2-36, while Niki Prasad and Minnu Mani took one wicket each.

India A women’s top order lacks support during chase

Chasing 299, India A women never settled into their innings and folded under sustained pressure from England’s disciplined attack. Opener Priya Punia fought almost alone, holding one end with 87 off 94 balls, including 14 boundaries. But she hardly received little support from the rest of the batting lineup.

Star batter and captain Harleen Deol’s duck and a middle-order collapse saw India A astonishingly slide from 41 for 1 to 96 for 6. Sophia Smale did the major damage, running through the lineup to finish with outstanding figures of 4 for 34. India A’s troubles worsened when Pratika Rawal was forced to retire hurt without facing a ball.

A fighting late-order rearguard from Jintimani Kalita (26*) helped push India’s score past 150. But it only delayed the inevitable. Grace Scrivens removed the tail, claiming 3 for 27 to bowl India A out for 173 in 42.3 overs. With this commanding 125-run triumph, England A women completely outclassed their counterparts to level the series. Everything now depends on another thrilling series decider on Saturday.
