In a massive blow for India, Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the remainder of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 due to an ankle injury. The 23-year-old off-spinner sustained the injury while fielding during the clash against the Netherlands on June 17 (Wednesday) at Headingley. She twisted her ankle in the sixth over of the Netherlands innings, while attempting to stop the ball after delivering what turned out to be her only ball of the match.

Patil was then stretchered off the field. As a result, uncapped leg-spinner Prema Rawat has been named as her replacement. Rawat has played six Women’s Premier League (WPL) matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) across two seasons, picking up just three wickets.
Her all-round skills also played a pivotal role in Uttarakhand securing the title in the domestic senior championship.
Unlucky Shreyanka
Coming back to Patil, she was unfortunate to miss the T20 World Cup in 2024 due to a finger injury in July, followed by a shin injury. However, she returned to action in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) and then for RCB in the WPL, playing a huge role in their success that season. Patil played in the first match of the World Cup against Pakistan, bowling three wicketless overs.
In the ongoing World Cup, India have won both their matches so far and sit on top of Group A with four points. They take on South Africa next on June 21 (Sunday) in Manchester.
