Sairaj Bahutule appointed as Team India’s spin bowling coach

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former Indian cricketer Sairaj Bahutule as the spin bowling coach of the Indian men’s senior team, the board announced on Tuesday. “Bahutule is known for grooming and developing spin bowlers in domestic and franchise cricket. His experience will benefit the Indian team,” the board said in a statement.

After the board’s announcement, 53-year-old Bahutule expressed happiness and said, ‘It is a great honour for me to be appointed the spin bowling coach of the Indian men’s team.’

Sairaj Bahutule played two Tests and eight ODIs for India. His first-class career spanned nearly two decades. He took 630 wickets in 188 first-class matches and scored 6176 runs. He was a brilliant all-rounder in domestic cricket, representing Mumbai, Maharashtra, and Vidarbha.

Bahutule returns to India team

After his career as a player, Bahutule took up coaching. He has served as head coach of Vidarbha, Kerala, Gujarat and Bengal teams. He has also served as spin bowling coach for the Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings in the IPL. His work in domestic and franchise cricket is considered highly significant.

Bahutule was the bowling coach of the Indian team that won the Under-19 World Cup in 2022. He was also part of the coaching staff for the 2024 Under-19 World Cup. The left-armer has also coached the India A and senior men’s teams on several tours. He was also part of the coaching setup at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy, now known as the Centre of Excellence, from 2021 to 2024.
