Talk about cricket, nothing else: Riyan Parag lashes out at commentators

Rajasthan Royals (RR) chased down 221 with utmost ease against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 21 (Tuesday) to remain in the hunt to make it to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 playoffs. A win against Mumbai Indians (MI) in their final group stage match will now assure them of a place in the top four.

RR controversies

RR have been in the news for the wrong reasons of late. Earlier in the season, their manager was reprimanded for using a mobile phone in the dugout and more recently, Parag was fined for using an e-cigarette in the dressing room.

However, Parag believes that the commentators and the experts should reserve their criticism for their on-field performances and not what goes on off the field.

“As far as the IPL is concerned, there are a lot of things happening outside this year,” Parag said after the LSG match

“We, as players, try to give our best whenever we can. It is easy to say after a poor performance that players do not know how to play or lack the mindset, but people do not see the three to four days of preparation behind every match.”

“We are humans too and we make mistakes too. “Cricket is the country’s biggest sport and it should be treated with respect. We should only talk about cricket, not anything else.”

Can RR make the playoffs?

After winning their first four matches, RR lost their way, having won just three of their next nine matches. However, their fate remains in their hands as far as making it to the playoffs is concerned. A loss against MI could see other teams sneak through.
