IPL 2026: Sanju Samson equals Rohit Sharma’s record with 2nd century of the season

After a slow start to his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) career, Sanju Samson has taken the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 by storm, slamming two centuries in his last four innings. The latest one came against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium, where he brought up a 54-ball century. He scored 10 fours and six sixes and he batted through the innings to take CSK to 207/6.

With this century, Samason has now Rohit Sharma’s eight T20 centuries – the joint-second-most for an Indian in the format.

This was also Samson’s fifth century in IPL cricket. Only one Indian player is ahead of him on the list.

This is also Samson’s third century as a wicketkeeper in the IPL, joining Quinton de Kock at the top. He is the first Indian wicketkeeper to score three centuries in IPL history. Besides him, only Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shane Watson, and Murali Vijay have scored two IPL hundreds for CSK.

Samson was traded from the Rajasthan Royals (RR) with Ravindra Jadeja going the other way ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. Samson is now the third-highest run-getter in IPL 2026 with 293 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 178.65.

CSK have won just two of their six matches in IPL 2026 so far and are currently in eight place on the points table.
